Cobra Electronics® and C-MAP Make a Powerful Combination for Boaters and Fishermen

18th January 2006

Cobra and C-MapBoaters who want the advanced features of MAX electronic charts now have a new choice in high performance, color GPS/chart plotters. Cobra Electronics (NASDAQ: COBR) — best known to mariners for VHF radios, power inverters and land-based equipment like portable car navigators, radar detectors and CB radios — is introducing two new GPS/chart plotters specifically developed for C-MAP’s cutting-edge MAX and MaxLakes™ cartography. Cobra Electronics’ MC 600Cx and MC 600Ci both pack a wealth of navigation features into a compact (7.75″H x 6.25″W x 3.25″D) case that will fit on the console or helm station of everything from freshwater bass boats to blue water cruisers. The 600Cx features an external high-performance GPS antenna and is ideal for flush mounting or bracket mounting on vessels with covered helm stations. The 600Ci features an internal antenna for simple installation and rigging on even the smallest center console or skiff. This model even comes with a marine 12V accessory power plug to further simplify setup and allow easy switching from boat to boat.

Both models display new MAX charts on a 6-inch, vertically oriented LCD display with 256 colors and an anti-reflective coating for visibility in bright sunlight. Among the many notable features these new navigators share are 12-channel WAAS GPS with Cobra’s exclusive iASAP technology for fast signal locking and retention, customizable Sunlight and Nightwatch modes and included flat black or metallic silver exchangeable faceplates for customizing the look of the Cobra 600 Series. An optional Cobra MF2500 Black Box 500/200kHz fish finder accessory turns either compact GPS/plotter into a powerful, all-in-one fishing information center.

These new Cobra navigators are the latest to bring the power of MAX to boaters from coast to coast or anywhere in-between. MAX delivers features like Flashing NavAids, Dynamic Currents/Current Predictions, Perspective View for a “bird’s eye” view of the chart, Land Elevation Contours, Coastal Road Data and Points of Interest (POIs). MAX also empowers these new units to display Aerial Photographs and Diagrams of selected harbors/marinas, as well as C-MAP’s exclusive C-Marina charts of marinas with in-depth facilities information and detail, right down to individual slip numbers.

These new Cobra navigators are sized and priced right for freshwater anglers, especially since they will run C-MAP’s new-for-2006 MaxLakes electronic maps. Covering more than 3,000 lakes, this powerful fishing tool delivers features like 16-color shaded depth contours and detailed information on vegetation zones, fishing spots, bottom structure, and shoreside facilities. MaxLakes’ exclusive Fish Species Identification (FSI) feature provides fish images, preferred habitat, fishing tips and state record information for target species. At the touch of a button, boaters can even call up state fishing and hunting regulations.

The navigation devices, which will be available at marine retailers in early 2006, recently made their worldwide debut at the 2005 Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam. The MC 600Cx, featuring an external antenna and flush mounting options, will have a retail price of $699.95 and the MC600Ci, featuring an internal iASAP™ GPS antenna, will have a retail price of $649.95.
