FURUNO ADDS NEW 17-INCH DISPLAY
12th February 2006
Camas, WA — Last year Furuno took the marine monitor market by storm when they
introduced their 12-inch and 15-inch ultra bright monitors. In fact, they won the Best Marine Specialty Award from the National Marine Electronics Association for their 15-inch monitor. Between the ultra bright displays, the attractive design and easy-to-use front panel interface, they appeal to any boater in need of LCD displays on their vessel. ![]()
Furuno has announced that they are adding on to this award winning line of monitors with the new MU170C — 17-inch monitor. Featuring an extremely bright color 17-inch TFT LCD with special AR (anti-reflective) glass filters, the MU170C has a wide viewing angle, with exceptional color and contrast, making it perfect for use in any tropical sunlight or low light conditions.
To expand the connection of this marine monitor, it supports a wide variety of inputs including: two (2) RGB analog, one (1) DVI-D (Digital Video Interface) and three (3) NTSC/PAL video inputs. These inputs make the MU170C ideal for any application such as a PC or laptop computer monitor, displays for closed circuit security or engine room cameras, a monitor for satellite TV, DVD or VCR. You can also use it with Black Box marine products such as Furuno’s Black Box Radar, Fish Finders, Sonar and NavNet vx2 BB. To top off this flexibility, you can even give each video input it’s own custom name, so when you are switching from one function to another, you won’t see the generic Video 1, Video 2 labels, instead you will see NavNet, TV or any other name you program.
The MU170C has a native resolution of SXGA (1280 x 1024). The unit is ultra bright, pinning the light meter at over 1,000 candelas. You can even put on your polarized sunglasses and they will not affect the display!
“We projected that Furuno monitors would be received well in the market place, as they are the perfect compliment to our Black Box products,” said Eric Kunz, Senior Product Development Manager at Furuno USA. “When we released the 12-inch and 15-inch displays, we immediately had requests for larger units, placing the MU170C at the top of our development list.”
The MU170C has Picture In Picture (PIP) capability utilizing the three (3) NTSC/PAL inputs. The PIP window overlays the main display and the PIP window can be resized and repositioned to anywhere on the screen. The PIP is ideal for viewing security cameras, engine room cameras or even your satellite TV while using the main screen for your marine electronics navigation. Both units also come with a standard infrared remote controller, allowing you to operate the display from where ever you may be sitting.
