Interphase Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of forward looking sonars, depthsounders and navigation electronics, has introduced an innovative line of Radar EnginesTM that work with Interphase’s popular Chart Master GPS displays and complement the recently introduced Interphase Black Box Fishfinder. Owners of Interphase Chart Master GPS plotters can now easily configure their system as an accurate WAAS/GPS plotter, a powerful radar, a 1,000 watt dual frequency fishfinder, or any combination of the three.

The new Interphase RE-Series of Radar EnginesTM include four models to fit the requirements of most any vessel, from the “Mini” RE-1, the RE-8 and RE-9 radome versions to the powerful RE-10 open array.

The Interphase “Mini” RE-1 Radar EngineTM is perfect for smaller vessels, sailboats with arches or stern mounted radar masts, and for use as back-up radar on larger craft. Small but powerful, the “Mini” RE-1’s rugged radome antenna is one of the smallest and lightest radar antenna’s available measuring only 12” in diameter, and its powerful 2kW transmitter will easily show targets up to a distance of 24 miles! The “Mini” RE-1 features a horizontal beamwidth of 7 degrees and a vertical beamwidth of 25 degrees, which is perfect for many recreational users.

The Interphase RE-8 Radar EngineTM is optimized for mid-sized power and sail vessels and features a larger 2kW, 20” radome, resulting in a narrower 4.7 degree horizontal beamwidth and a range of up to 24 miles.

The RE-9 Radar EngineTM is a larger and more powerful radome version. With a 1.8” radome and 4 kW of power the RE-9 has a range of 36 nautical miles and a horizontal beam-width of only 4 degrees.

The new RE-10 Radar EngineTM is a powerful open array version that is available with either a 3.5′ or 4.5′ antenna, sports a 4kW transmitter and has ranges to 48 nautical miles. The 3.5 foot version has a 2.4 degree horizontal beam-width and the 4.5 foot version has a 1.7 degree beam-width for amazingly fine resolution. And like all Interphase Radar EnginesTM, the RE-10 has a vertical beam-width of 25 degrees to help compensate for vessel pitch and roll in rough weather.

Once connected to Interphase’ Chart Master Series of GPS plotters, the plotter becomes a powerful radar and chart plotting display. Users can view full screen radar or chart images or simultaneously view both on a split screen display. Charts can also be overlaid directly on top of the real-time radar image to aid in quick identification of radar images such as buoys, channel markers, obstructions and shorelines.

Each of Interphase’s new Radar Engines TM feature Auto Tuning so the picture is constantly and automatically optimized for best signal clarity. Also included are two (EBL’s) Electronic Bearing Lines, two (VRM’s) Variable Range Markers, Heads Up, Course Up or North Up presentation modes, and the user can even select and alarm two different sector guard zones. Another very useful feature, target expansion, gives the user the ability to offset the image anywhere on the screen to maximize the view in a particular direction.

All models of Interphase’s Radar EnginesTM are water resistant to IPX-6 rating and have bearing accuracies better than +/- 1 degree. Power consumption is less than 30 Watts for the “Mini” RE-1 and RE-8 units, 45 Watts for the RE-9 and 80 Watts for the RE-10. All units will work from voltages of 10.8 to 31.2 VDC and have cable lengths of 15 meters for the “Mini”
RE-1 and RE-8 and 20 meters for the RE-9 and RE-10. Built to last, the RE-1, RE-8 and RE-9 Radar Engines will operate in wind speeds to 100 knots and the RE-10 up to 70 knots!

Suggested retail prices are $1,699 for the “Mini” RE-1, $1,999 for the RE-8, $2,899 for the
RE-9 and $4,799 for the 3.5 foot version of the RE-10 and $4,899 for the 4.5 foot version. For more information, contact Interphase Technologies, Inc. at 2880 Research Park Drive, #140, Soquel, CA 95073 USA. Telephone: (831) 477-4944. Or visit online at www.interphase-tech.com.

Garmin Introduces World’s First Portable GPS Navigators With Pre-Loaded Land and Sea Cartography

OLATHE , Kan./March 27, 2006/PR Newswire — Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced the GPSMAP 378 and GPSMAP 478 – two amazingly versatile and portable GPS navigators that come pre-loaded with a comprehensive set of maps and charts.

“Our customers want GPS navigators that come pre-loaded with the cartography that they need, and the GPSMAP 378 and 478 fit the bill. These two units are the ideal companions whether you’re sailing coastal waterways, boating on inland lakes, or driving across North America,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “With optional XM WX Weather capabilities, the GPSMAP 378 and 478 are the only portable units on the market that can also let mariners and motorists know what kind of weather to expect during their trip.”

The GPSMAP 478 features built-in Marine Detail Charts of the United States coastline, including Alaska and Hawaii – utilizing elements of Garmin’s new BlueChart ® g2™ technology. These charts provide integrated maps for a much smoother presentation. BlueChart g2 has all the detail of traditional BlueChart, but with richer detail and content. Chart features include shaded depth contours, port plans, wrecks, restricted areas, and more.

For inland boaters and anglers, the GPSMAP 378 boasts 10-meter resolution for more than 3200 lakes. The vast majority of these high-resolution lakes include depth contours. In addition, 50-meter shoreline resolution is furnished for lakes across the entire continental United States. Maps depict USCG lights and a wrecks and obstructions database overlaid on the map. These lake maps are seamlessly integrated with the 378’s street maps.

OLATHE , Kan./March 27, 2006/PR Newswire — Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced the new GMR 21 and GMR 41, two 24-inch diameter digital marine radar scanners for use with the Garmin Marine Network™ that feature industry-leading performance and value.

“Garmin is an industry pioneer in the development of digital radar and its presentation over our Marine Network via an Ethernet connection,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “With the GMR 21 and 41, we’re offering the same best-in-class low profile and narrow beam width – now available in a space-saving 24-inch radome.”

With the GMR 21 and GMR 41, all radar data is digitally processed within the radome via a digital signal processor, and is efficiently presented on Garmin’s GPSMAP ® 3000 series of chartplotter/multifunction displays (MFDs). Digital processing allows for more precise recognition, enhancement, and filtering of radar echoes – making the finished display easier to read and interpret. Similar to Garmin’s GMR 20/40 radar scanners, the new units feature Garmin’s unique convex antenna design, giving the radome a narrower beam width and a lower physical profile – for the best performance and value in its category.

The GMR 21 (2kW radome) and the GMR 41 (4kW radome) feature an industry-leading 3.6-degree horizontal and 25-degree vertical beamwidth, which allow for accurate target acquisition and separation. The GMR 21 has a range of 24 nautical miles (nm), while the GMR 41 extends to 36nm.

The GMR 21 and 41 both have radar overlay capability, allowing boaters to reconcile radar signatures with known objects on the chartplotter. Users can also configure a split-screen, dual overlay with a standard radar presentation.

The units also offer MARPA (Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) capability, which allow boaters to track the bearing, course, speed and predicted closest approach (by both time and distance) of up to 10 targets. MARPA functionality requires a GPSMAP 3000 series MFD and an optional heading sensor.

The GMR 21 and 41 feature automatic and manual sensitivity and tuning controls, including gain, sea clutter, and rain clutter – which allows boaters to spend less time tuning the unit and more time navigating. The units also boast selectable interference rejection, which mitigates the effect of nearby radar transmissions.

Other specifications for the GMR 21 and GMR 41 include:

Physical size/RPM: 24” diameter radome, 8” high, 24 RPM

Weight: 26 lb. radome

Beam width: 3.6 o maximum horizontal, 25 o nominal vertical

Trails: short, medium, and long

Timed transmit: variable transmit and standby times

Off center function: look ahead, auto shift, and manual

Cable length: 15 meters

Waterproof: IEC 60529 IPX-7

The GMR 21 and GMR 41 communicate with the Garmin Marine Network through a waterproof 100-megabit plug-and-play proprietary network – which affords users the ability to expand their boat’s system as needed. A Marine Network cable connector kit is also included for customizing installation.

The Garmin Marine network can provide important situational awareness data like GPS, radar, sonar, and near real-time graphical weather data and audio channels directly on the GPSMAP 3000 series MFD, through a subscription to XM WX Satellite Weather and XM Radio.

The GMR 21 and GMR 41 are expected to be available in May 2006. The GMR 21 has a suggested retail price of $1799.99, and the GMR 41 has an MSRP of $2199.99. See www.garmin.com for more details.

Camas, WA — Furuno is proud to introduce the new CH-300 Dual-Frequency Searchlight Sonar, the world’s first dual-frequency sonar! This sonar is built specifically for sport fishing battlewagons and commercial fishing vessels that are looking for an extra edge. With traditional sonars, you pick either a low frequency or high frequency version, but with the CH300 it’s like getting two sonars in one.

This revolutionary, dual-frequency sonar has the advantage of both high and low frequencies in one unit to search on a rough seabed and to greatly enhance fish school detection. Its operating frequency can be selected from either 60/153kHz or 85/215kHz. The lower frequencies enable long-range searches of over 1,600 feet. The higher frequencies, give a highly detailed search near and around the vessel.

The CH300 comes in two versions: a display version, packaged with a 10.4-inch color LCD, or a Black Box version that allows you to connect nearly any size display to it, such as Furuno’s 12”, 15” and 17” ultra-bright monitors. A variety of presentation modes are available: horizontal and vertical scan, echo sounder and vertical scan/historical/plotter presentations. The combination of horizontal and vertical scan helps evaluate the distribution of fish schools in both the horizontal and vertical planes simultaneously.

A unique mix mode is available, which uses an overlay of the two frequencies. By comparing the returned echo intensity of both frequencies, the mix mode picks out the echoes of tiny fish and displays them in vivid colors, while other echoes are displayed in weaker colors. This helps to discriminate tiny fish, such as small bait, from other fish.

Two target lock modes are provided to either manually or automatically track a fish school or stationary position, such as a fish shelter or reef. The Target Lock mode will automatically track the fish school, while the Position Track mode will lock the beam onto a specified Lat/Lon position. In addition, the CH300 also displays vessel position, heading, cursor Lat/Lon, and vessel’s track line and water currents when interfaced with appropriate sensors.

Fish and underwater targets are displayed in eight or 16 colors, including white, on a high-resolution color TFT LCD display. The CH300 has user-selectable background colors to adjust for every lighting condition, from pitch-black to full sunlight. For those who prefer to specify their own display, the CH300BB allows you to choose what type and size of display to connect to the unit. It doesn’t matter if it is a CRT or a flat panel LCD, as long as it is a non-interlaced, VGA (640 x 480) or higher monitor. The intuitive, easy to use control panel includes one-touch selection of sonar display modes with user programmable “custom” mode keys.
When operating the CH300 in Full-circle mode, it offers 15 range scales from 40 to 2,500 feet. The Vertical Fan Scan mode, also offers 15 range scales from 30 to 2,000 feet.

Because of the slim design of the LCD display and control panel, the unit needs less space on your bridge than its CRT counterparts. The CH300BB Black Box version allows for shared monitor utilization of other Black Box products with a standard PC monitor switching system. This means you can use one monitor for several different Furuno Black Box products. Furuno’s CH300 and CH300BB feature a 190 mm (approx. 8”) hull tube.
